Which import is right for your organization?

With NEON, you have two options for importing your existing constituent data. Understanding the differences between the two approaches can make your setup process easier.

Self-Import

Choosing to import your own data into NEON can be advantageous for some organizations. If you have relatively simple constituent data, it may be the right choice. Self-importing allows you to save on initial setup costs. With a technically savvy staff member, you can have your system up and running faster.

NEON Import

Having the NEON staff import your data gives you the benefit of years of expertise in importing data. For organizations who are not very familiar with their existing constituent data, this can be a key factor in choosing which method to import their data. A NEON import also allows you to import many more types of data, as outlined in the chart below.

Custom data that displays only on individual records or displays only on organization records.
Donations
Records of donation transactions.
Recurring Donations
Records of automatically recurring donations.
Event registrations
Records of event registrations transactions.
Store purchases
Records of online store purchase transactions.
Memberships
Records of membership registration transactions.
Member Renewals
Records of automatically renewing memberships.
Group Membership
Membership status held by a group of individuals.
Relationships
Any connection between accounts: households, organization contacts, or other relationships.
Volunteers
Flagging people as volunteers, and volunteer hours.
Time Sheets
Mileage, Expenses, and Hours reported by constituents.
