Chime Loan Program

Time to Apply for 2013-2014 School Year

Are you an educator who would like to explore using handchimes in the classroom to enhance the educational experience of the your students? Area 9 offers just the program for you.

Every school year, the Area 9 Chime Loan Program loans out two 3-octave sets of Malmark handchimes for use in an educational setting.

Applications must be submitted to the Area 9 Education Coordinator, Barbie Senkow, by June 1, 2013 for the upcoming school year.

More details about the program and what is required are available on our website:

The New Area 9 Website Is Live!

Our all-new website has officially gone live at http://area9.handbellmusicians.org/ . We're no longer a blog, but a full-fledged site under the official Handbell Musicians of America umbrella.

What does that mean to you? Better access to all that Area 9 has to offer, including information about the Summit and other area events, contact information for all the board members and Area 9 initiatives. Now it's easier for you to find the info about what Area 9 can do for you, like scholarships and the chime loan program.

But wait, there's more! Area 9 is committed to becoming a home for all area 9 event listings, including yours. You can now submit your own via our interactive PDF. Just download it, fill it out, and submit! We'll list your concert/event on the Area site and post about it on our Facebook page. This is free for members, just $10 per event for non-members.

We're proud of the fresh new look, sure, but we also want the new site to truly be for all of the community. So please, send us feedback! Let us know what else you feel should be on the site, and feel free to approach us about contributing content or anything else. We hope you like what you see!

Central Texas Spring Ring 2013 Recap

A gorgeous spring day & 35 faithful handbell ringers opted to be inside attending the Central Texas Spring Ring!

Karen Thompson was the guest clinician. She was wonderful! She led the groups through the three pieces & helped with technique, phrasing, dynamics & musicality. It was fun to see the singing bell technique practiced by all in the room. Check out the photo gallery too at http://area9.handbellmusicians.org/gallery/

Our ringers ranged in age from youth to senior. I watched our one youth ringer - he played right alongside the adults in the choir he was attending with! He was very good!

Everyone shared their knowledge with all. As I was at the event representing Area 9, I did not have a choir to ring with. Lake Travis took pity on me & invited me to ring with them. They had some spots open at their "bass" table. Now, I'm one of those who does not do well with change & I always play the C6, C#67, D67 & D#67, you know - one of those "treble" ringers. I don't really read bass clef, but there were bells & my hands were just itching to ring, so I rang G4, A4 & on occasion the C4! Totally out of my "comfort zone", but I had a blast! Thanks Patty!

Emily Craven was an awesome hostess!! Emily & the ringers of the Joy Bells handled setup and registration, and their hospitality was the best. Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church was gracious to allow us to hold the event in their facility. Plenty of parking & a view that was superb. Setup was great & they provided plenty of snacks for all - we even had enough to have a snack for the trip home!
Lake Travis UMC volunteered their facility for the 2014 Central Texas Spring Ring, so we are off to a great start for next year.

I hope we can build our Central Texas Spring Ring to the size of the Greater Dallas Handbell Association's spring event! Let's get the word out & start planning now!
