As the world’s largest triathlon club for people with diabetes, Triabetes shatters preconceived notions of what people with diabetes can do. Triabetes revolutionizes the way people approach diabetes through inspiration, educates the patient and medical communities about diabetes and exercise, and explores the physiological and social foundations of successful diabetes management.

Help this year's Triabetes captains as they mentor type 1 youth in their communities and train their way to an electrifying finish at the 2011 St. George Ironman triathlon. All procceeds will directly benefit Triabetes leadership development programs.

Thanks for visiting my fundraising and information page. Above left is a picture of my brother John and I, after running in Hendy Woods State Park along the Navarro River where I grew up in Anderson Valley, California. It was here that I was diagnosed with diabetes, began testing my blood sugar by matching the color on a litmus strip, injecting insulin, calculating carbs, and the fun began...Top right is me getting out of the San Francisco Bay after swimming from Alcatraz.

In December of 1989, at the age of 12, I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Now, 20 years later, I am still going strong. It's definitely changed my life and become a part of my life too. I don't think that it's slowed me down at all, and maybe if anything it's made me work harder and be more determined.

Being a part of Triabetes is both inspiring and very exciting for me. I'm looking forward to not only swimming 2.4 miles, biking 112 miles, and then running 26.2 miles. I am also looking forward to meeting other people with diabetes, encouraging and working with kids and families with diabetes, and helping to educate and learn from others about the importance of exercise in diabetes management. In order to make this all happen I need to raise some funds; and I'm hoping for your support. I'll be looking for donations online, sending out letters, holding local events/fundraisers, and more.

From a $5 to a $100 donation, from words of encouragement to tips and advice, it all adds up to make it happen.

Like any fundraising, it's more fun if we get creative with it!  So, you can donate:

$24 for the 2.4 mile swim - Or $55 for the fact that the water temperature is 55 degrees!

$112 for the 112 mile bike ride (or $56 for the 56 for half of it). This will be the LONG part of the event, and I'll need that support.

$26.20 for the 26.2 mile marathon (or $300 for the 300 minutes - or less- it will take me to complete it)

Anyway you want to help out would be great. AND, it's tax deductible!! Triabetes is a part of Insulindependence, which is a 501c(3). I appreciate any and all support you can give.
