Introducing El Sistema OKC: It’s About Chime!

El Sistema OKC is a unique after-school music program that serves over 250 underserved and disadvantaged public school children in the heart of Oklahoma City. The students are so excited for the opportunity to play the handchimes. Last fall we spent a great deal of time learning how to hold the chimes, how to take care of the chimes, and how to create chords. Students were excited to see how quickly they could create beautiful sounds.

Score Study – It’s Not Just for Directors!

Each semester when I pick music for the various handbell groups I direct I spend some time studying the scores before presenting the music at a rehearsal. Score study is, in my opinion, a necessity for directors, but I think it’s also a necessity for ringers! As a ringer, you probably don’t have the luxury of seeing the music before it is presented at a rehearsal, but there are still many things you can do after the fact.
