(New York) March 5, 2010—The American Turkish Society and New York University’s Institute for the Study of the Ancient World (ISAW) will co-present a lecture by archaeologist and author Christopher Roosevelt of Boston University on March 15. The event, which is sponsored by Herrick, Feinstein LLP, will be the first in a series of archaeology lectures to be presented by The Society and ISAW.

Entitled Probing and Preserving the Past in Western Turkey: The Central Lydia Archaeological Survey, the lecture will focus on “The Central Lydia Archaeological Survey,” a Boston University research project that investigates all periods of human life in Central Western Turkey covered by the Ancient Kingdom of Lydia. Along with the latest progress in investigations of well-preserved citadels and other structures of the Hittite era, the lecture will emphasize local and regional preservation initiatives and programs to protect heritage landscapes.

Christopher Roosevelt is an Assistant Professor of Archaeology at Boston University. A member of the Archaeological Institute of America, the American Research Institute in Turkey, the British Institute of Archaeology in Ankara, and the American School of Classical Studies in Athens, he is also the recipient of a National Science Foundation grant for a project titled “Environmental and Cultural Dynamics in Central Lydia, Western Turkey.” He has contributed to the American Journal of Archaeology, the Journal of Field Archaeology, and other journals and edited volumes.
