Sensory Friendly Afternoon

TIME:        1:35 PM Game
 
Complimentary tickets for individuals and families affected by autism made possible by the Panera Bread Pieces of Hope for Autism Cookie Campaign.  Additional tickets available for extended family at a reduced rate of $5.00 per ticket.
 
OPTIONAL:  Meal Deal may be purchased (in advanced only) for $5.00 each includes hot dog, chips, and drink.
 
Autism Awareness Day at the Ball Park includes:
  - Sensory break areas
  - Reduced music levels
  - Awareness facts on the video board
  - Autism resources at tables on the concourse

  - To see tomorrow's Major League stars

The SeaWolves will permit food and beverages to help meet the dietary needs of Autism Society guests. Please notify our staff and we'll  be happy to assist you.

Volunteers Needed!

Autism Society NWPA depends 100% on volunteers to run our monthly family sensory & social outings, fundraisers, and educational opportunities.  Would you be able to share some time with the Autism Society NWPA?

UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES:

August 10 - Autism Day at Ball Park - Volunteers needed for 1 hour shifts (starting at 12:30pm and ending at 4:30pm) to cover the Autism Society NWPA Information & Merchandise table. 

October 25 - Autism in Our Community Event - Volunteers needed to help with set-up, registration, lunch, and clean-up.  The conference runs from 8:45am to 4:15pm. 

There are also many opportunities to serve on a committee.  Development Committee, Recreation & Family Support, Education & Awareness Committee all have room for new committee members.  Email:  autismsociety@nwpaasa.org or call (814) 455-3540 for more information or to volunteer or to join a committee.

NEW Facebook Group for Support
Every parent and person on the spectrum has so much to offer, so a forum to help one another has been created.  If you have a question, a suggestion for someone else's question, or just want to share a success or a struggle, this local on-line community is here to provide support.  The group is closed so only members may see the comments shared. Please email: autismsociety@nwpaasa.org  if you would like to join the closed group.

Welcome to our corner of tidbits

To comply with the Affordable Care Act - health care reform - a change is being made to certain employer-sponsored benefit plans that provide coverage for care for autism spectrum disorders.

Specifically, some groups will need to remove the annual dollar maximum that has applied to these services since state mandate Pennsylvania Act 62 of 2008 became effective.   This change is effective when the employer's coverage renews in 2014.

If your employer's benefit plan covers autism-related services, you will continue to have this coverage.  You are not losing any benefits for coverage of autism spectrum disorder.

To find out if you are affected by this change, you may want to check with your benefits administrator.  You can also call Member Services at the number on your identification card.

Summer Picnic
Thank YOU

We were very pleased with the weather for our annual picnic on July 20th.  Our families were able to enjoy the Splash Pad, Pool, Playground, and even some fishing!  Thank you to everyone that came out to enjoy the facilities at Camp Sherwin.

Thank you to our volunteers for making our annual family summer picnic a HUGE success!  The picnic would not be possible without our volunteers organizing the food, setting up tables & chairs, decorating, and cleaning up afterwards.  We ALL appreciate our volunteers sharing their time with us.

How can I help?
The Autism Society Northwestern Pennsylvania depends 100% on fundraising dollars to provide supports to individuals and families living with an autism spectrum disorder.  We welcome the community's willingness to help promote autism awareness and funding for our mission.  One of the ways to support the Autism Society Northwestern Pennsylvania is planning and/or sponsoring an event to raise funds for the charity.
