The leader’s role in building a high performing governing board is complex and fraught with challenges. Yet the executive director/CEO plays a lynchpin role in enhancing board functioning. This hands-on session offers practical approaches and tools with strategies to enhance your board’s engagement and mission value. Key takeaways include: creating a board work plan, agenda design for meetings that matter, measuring board performance and tackling gnarly issues that may thwart effectiveness.

Susan YatesAbout the Presenter: Nancy Ronquillo has served as Children’s Home + Aid president and CEO since 2001. She has exercised leadership in the human services field for over four decades. Nancy is dedicated to improving the lives of children, youth and families. During the past decade, Children’s Home + Aid has implemented many innovative programs and forged new partnerships that create bright futures for over 40,000 children and families every year. In 2012, Children’s Home + Aid launched the Center for Policy, Practice and Innovation to ensure “Best Results” and to bring what works to scale. As a leader in the field, Nancy has served as the founding chair of Children’s Home Society of America, and founding chair of Illinois Partners for Human Service, an 800+ member statewide advocacy organization. Nancy serves on both national and local boards, including the Children’s Home Society of America, National Veterans Arts Museum (NVAM), Chicago Thrive Leadership Council, Chicago Alliance for Collaborative Effort, Axelson Center for Nonprofit Management Advisory Board and the Chicago Horse Center. Nancy holds a Master of Arts degree in rehabilitation counseling from Southern Illinois University.
