About this Session: With more and more individual contributions coming from Donor Advised Funds (DAF), it is essential to know how this method of philanthropic giving works and why it has increased in popularity over the last several years. Come to this session to learn how a DAF compares to a foundation, why people choose to give through a DAF, and the role of those working directly with donors who create a DAF. We will explore the ins and outs of relationship-building when you seek to access DAFs, and the strategies to steward those relationships. Also, we will discuss how to educate your supporters so they understand the importance of a DAF as an option for philanthropic giving.

About the Presenter: Jacob M. Drescher, MBA, Financial Advisor, Wells Fargo Advisors

As a financial advisor at Wells Fargo Advisors in Deerfield, Jacob focuses on helping nonprofit organizations with their investment planning and management needs. He also serves individuals looking to achieve their personal philanthropic aspirations as an element of their overall investment, retirement, and estate planning, often utilizing donor advised funds to accomplish these goals.

Before entering the financial services industry, Jacob received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University, Kelley School of Business, and his MBA from the Quinlan School of Business at Loyola University Chicago. This led him to a consultant position at Grenzebach Glier & Associates, where he worked with universities, hospitals and arts and cultural organizations on campaign planning and development strategy.

Prior to his role at Grenzebach Glier & Associates, Jacob spent more than a decade working in the nonprofit sector in such roles as vice president of development for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and as the executive director of Children’s Oncology Services. The majority of his work focused on creating and implementing comprehensive development programs, as well as integrating programmatic strategies to advance the fundraising capabilities of these organizations.
