About this Session: In this workshop, two experienced CPAs will discuss lessons they have learned and share proactive tips and practical advice for ensuring a successful and efficient audit for your nonprofit organization, including:

  1. Effective communication strategies with your auditors including managing and communicating expectations,
  2. Collaboration and time management between your team and your auditors, and
  3. Ideas for completing financial statements and other reports ahead of schedule.

This workshop will include hands-on, practical information and an opportunity to share your knowledge with your peers.

Who Should Participate: Chief financial officers, chief operating officers, controllers, accountants, bookkeepers, outside accountants and anyone responsible for coordinating and facilitating your organization’s year-end financial audit.

About the Presenters: 

Harry Fox, CPA, is a senior manager at ORBA, Certified Public Accountants and has over 15 years' experience in the not-for-profit industry. His work has included numerous audits, reviews and monthly accounting work for not-for-profit organizations, including educational organizations, charitable foundations and social service agencies. Harry is committed to keeping his clients informed of any changes in the nonprofit industry by regularly participating in continuing education courses, presenting at seminars and authoring articles on ORBA’s blog at www.orbablog.com. Harry is a graduate of DePaul University.

 

 

Jim Quaid, CPA, is a director at Ostrow Reisin Berk & Abrams, Ltd. (ORBA), Certified Public Accountants, and is the firm’s chair of their Not-For-Profit Group. Jim’s experience includes providing auditing, accounting and tax services for nonprofit organizations, including social service agencies, charter schools, associations, foundations and civic and cultural organizations. Jim’s experience enables him to advise his clients about new funding streams, the best course when looking to provide a new service or program, and effective ways to undertake strategic or operational changes. Throughout his career, Jim has helped his clients address the needs of various stakeholders, including: board members, staff, donors, recipients, governmental or oversight agencies, and the public at large. Jim is a graduate of Marquette University and serves on the Marquette University Department of Accounting Advisory Board.
