In tumultuous times like the ones our society is currently facing we can often forget that at the end of the day real people's lifes are being drastically affected. No matter what your political or worldview beliefs are, we can all agree that our society has a responsibility to our most vulnerable and truly innocent. Trauma and neglect is a societal problem at its core and affects everyone directly or indirectly. Therefore it is all of our responsiblity to be aware of this truth and contribute to the solution in any way we can. Children of Cook County who find themselves in horrible situations at no fault of thier own are entitled to good advocacy and protection. I am running in the 2017 Chicago Marathon in support of CASA of Cook County. I would invite you to look further into their cause and possibly contribute financially in any small or large way you can. For over 30 years, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Cook County has been training everyday people to stand up for children that have experienced abuse and neglect in an overwhelmed and extremely under-resourced foster care system. Today there are anywhere between 5,800 to 6,000 children in Cook County’s foster care system—and CASA of Cook County can only provide one-on-one support for less than 6 percent of them. Because of our limited resources, our volunteer advocates are court-appointed for cases deemed most in need of individual, dedicated support. Our goal in 2017 is to once again run the Bank of America Chicago Marathon and raise $50,000. 100% of the money raised will go towards CASA of Cook County's child advocacy program.
