Family Friday Series Continues with Portland BoyChoir & I Ragazzi Baroque

April 15, 2011

April brings an inspiring program of kids playing for kids at the Community Music Center on Friday, April 15.  Featuring the all treble-voiced Portland Boychoir, “Open a New Window” will refresh your senses with music from across a broad range of genres. Enjoy favorites like, “He Ain’t Heavy,” and “Morning Has Broken,” arranged in three and four-part harmonies that feature the vocal mastery of these 10–14 year-olds.  Choir Director David York says, “You haven’t lived until you’ve heard this group of boys singing their own rendition of Michael Jackson’s hit, “Man in the Mirror.”

Portland Boychoir is recognized as the premier all-boy vocal ensemble in the Pacific Northwest. This group of boys trains together from the age of six, later performing and touring throughout the country. Last year, they were invited to sing under the direction of Maestro John Rutter, performing his “Mass of the Children” in New York City’s famed Carnegie Hall. Portland Boychoir was featured on Pink Martini’s Starbuck’s Holiday album “Joy to the World” and performed with them at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. Giving a fresh face to centuries-old Baroque performance practice, I Ragazzi Baroque (“the Baroque kids”) is a band of top teenage string players who put youthful energy into the classics.  A program of the Community Music Center, the group is directed by David Kerr.  Samples of their performance appear on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/Iragazzi5
