In Memoriam

Tom Dunne (2021)
Tommy was a self-taught musician and multi-instrumentalist. He performed around the Northwest and also taught guitar and mandolin in his studio and through Portland Parks and Recreation (Monatavilla Community Center). We are grateful to the family who suggests that donations in memory of Tommy may be made to the Community Music Center.

Helen Korngold (2021)
Helen Margaret Korngold was a long-time supporter of the Community Music Center, and Mother-in-law to CMC instructor John Hubbard. She hosted the CMC Faculty Benefit Concert reception in her NE Portland home in 2003, where attendees got to see the Academy Award “Oscar” award won by her late husband, famed composer Ernst Korngold.

Joyce “Joy” Moorman (2021)
Growing up in Portland, Joy studied piano from a very early age. Joy attended Jefferson High School, where she was very active in the music and musical theatre programs. Joy always kept her interest in community music in a variety of ways, including with CMC’s Francis Street Singers (Community Music Center), and accompanying on piano a number of voice students and group classes throughout the years. She preferred to work at CMC as a volunteer rather than getting paid for her services. We are grateful to her, and to the family, who requests that in lieu of flowers, charitable donations in memory of Joy might be made to the Community Music Center. 

Ian Mouser (2021)
Founding director of My Voice Music in Portland, Ian touched the lives of countless people in his work to bring music to the underserved. There was a “Let It Be” community sing-a-long in his honor in Laurelhurst Park on Oct 23, 2021. 

Martin Weiner (2020)
Martin inspired many through his enthusiasm for bicycling, running, and music – listening and playing many instruments as a amateur. In 2021 his loving family and partner made a significant donation to CMC to create a new fund at the Oregon Community Foundation to be called the Martin Weiner Music Scholarship Fund.
