Youth do better in school and are more positively involved in their community if they have regular music lessons.*  Unfortunately, those who need the benefits of harmony in their lives are often the least likely to be able to afford it.  Your gift to this non-profit auction will help us give access to all, through our non-profit’s need-based scholarship program.

Excellence

The Community Music Center (CMC) provides Portland with a place for children & adults to study music with highly-skilled, experienced faculty.  Classes include general musicianship as well as instruction in string instruments, music theory, voice, piano, & guitar.

Access

CMC has a non-profit partner that raises money year-round to keep tuition fees affordable, providing over $65,000 in need-based scholarships per year to children.

In the past, most schools had music teachers. Students had the opportunity to participate in bands, orchestras, or choirs as a part of their regular school day.  But now many schools no longer provide music instruction.

This means that hundreds of students who want music lessons may have no access.  CMC’s programs provide an alternative source of music education.

Growing Need

Scholarships at CMC have tripled in the last five years.  Help us keep our promise to never turn any child away for lack of ability to pay.

Building Community

The Center builds community by offering a gathering place for music education & enjoyment.  CMC hosts local and visiting music artists as well as Portland-area teachers & students who gather to rehearse, record, and perform.  Thousands of area residents enjoy over 150 concerts a year in our recital hall at low or no admission cost.
