ALEX GREY'S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

Saturday night after Thanksgiving… Leftovers almost gone… Come to CoSM and celebrate Alex's birthday. This celebration has become a tradition as an opportunity to honor the artist who has created the context of the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, CoSM.

Don't bring a gift. Your $20 donation at the door goes right to Alex's favorite community supported charity, CoSM and the building of Entheon. Visit the store and think of your friends and family for the holiday season.

Bring, if you'd like, a one-minute blessing that expresses how Alex Grey's art has touched you.
We will be videotaping. Look for original and moving examples at cosm.org

The night will begin with a brief "This is Your LIfe" segment on the birthday boy himself including rarely seen footage and stills. Discover how the archetypes of Popeye and Quasimodo shaped the persona of one of the world's great Visionary Artists. Learn how a kid from an All-American, flag waving home in Central Ohio became a voice of The Love Tribe. Find out what advice  Alex's teachers gave to him that has been useful in his path?

Alex will then share reflections on the nature of the personal and transpersonal "self."

DAVID STARFIRE

David Starfire Live at Envision Festival

David Starfire is a producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and DJ based in Los Angeles and San Francisco. His production style is eclectic, fusing world music with electronic dance music, hip-hop and everything in between. He's performed at large festivals with some of the biggest electronic artists. His music is in high demand with tracks being licensed to major TV networks and commercials. He’s developed quite a following and his unique sound has created fans across the globe.

David’s heritage is Creole and he follows in the footsteps of his grandfather, Oscar Rouzan, who was a famous horn player in New Orleans and played with the likes of Paul Simon, Pete Fountain, Al Hirt and numerous other great artists. His aunt is Wanda Rouzan, who is also well known vocalist in the New Orleans jazz scene as one of the premier musical ambassadors. David started playing the guitar at 8 and by 17, he was composing, producing and recording songs in his bedroom and could play 5 instruments. He then gravitated towards electronic music production using sampling and programming drums. By 19, David was in a signed band and touring with the likes of Nine Inch Nails,  Ministry, Filter and Skinny Puppy. After a brief solo career in NYC and several bands later, David moved to San Francisco and was part of the critically acclaimed band Cellophane Masses. Eventually his interest shifted towards producing world music mixed with electronic dance music and started incorporating ancient instruments from India and Africa with heavy bass music.

HEISS

Frank Heiss started playing drums at the age of four. He became an accomplished orchestral timpanist, traveling the world while still in his teens and culminating in the New England Conservatory Youth Philharmonic Orchestra Boston Symphony Orchestra sponsored performance of the Dvorak cello concerto played by Yo-Yo Ma with John Williams conducting.  Now, he produces music as HEISS. An integral exploration into Spiritual teachings created a new, mystical desire to produce music inspired by connection to the Divine; music with purpose - to bring Joy and celebration of Awakening to those who listen. Frank Heiss currently resides in his home city of Boston, and continues to produce and perform, sharing his experience with a 35 year journey into music.

Johnathan Singer

The entrepreneurial spirit drove Johnathan Singer from an early age. By 24, he’d begun a career in publishing a socially conscious lifestyle magazine in Southern California called “West Side Life.” This exposed him to a wide range of artists, musicians, presenters and live performance personnel.

Moved to become an artist in his own right, Singer began performing real-time multimedia light shows for the musicians he’d met while publishing the magazine. Pushing the boundaries of technology, his performances lead to a new art form incorporating computer-generated images, texture maps, custom 3D animations and special effects to inspire his audiences visual and auditory experience. Now an innovative Video Performance Artist, Singer has grown his own business performing around the world, mixing and integrating live visionary art with video to live music. Along with creating content for world-renowned Lighting Designers and VJs, Johnathan is designing and producing DVDs for music producers, musicians and visionary artists.
