Join us for a 3-day workshop, exploring the vast territories of producing and performing electronic music with Ableton Live.
The class will be hosted by advanced Ableton producer and guitarist/ educator D.V.S* (aka Derek VanScoten).

*Class comes with a Flash drive containing of lesson materials, presets, samples, templates and more*

   


Technical topics producing include:
 

  • Various approaches and philosophies of electronic sub-genres
  • Mixing and mastering (making your tracks pop!)
  • Creating your own sounds/ samples
  • Various midi controllers and their uses
  • Live sets, DJ sets, PA sets, synching CPU's
  • The art of remixing
  • Scoring to video
  • Shadowing song forms
  • Creating racks and presets
  • The use of dummy clips
  • Using templates
  • Setting up hot keys
  • Understanding the sonic and harmonic spectrums
  • Life lesson topics include:

Lesson formats will vary between group activity and one-on-one attention with D.V.S*

Material requirements: Ableton Lite or higher installed on a CPU, headphones. Midi controller is helpful but not required.


 

 

     


D.V.S* (aka Derek VanScoten) is a guitarist, producer, and educator based in Austin, TX. D.V.S* is an active Ableton artist in the production, performance, and educational fields. He has presented throughout the United States, including official Ableton events in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, and Miami. D.V.S* was one of 3 initial artists in the world to debut the Popular Science Award Winning "Guitar Wing" by Livid Instruments.


Recent career highlights include an official remix of Bassnectar's "So Butterfly", the scoring of a Sundance documentary, an EP release on Emancipator's Loci Records (Comfort Zone), and a collaboration with Random Rab on the track "Blast Off." In 2009, the guitarist/ producer began releasing solo material and touring nationally. In 2013 his remix of The Beatles' "Because" broke the top 5 on Hype Machine, and finally gained the producer international attention. As a diverse performer, D.V.S* has spent considerable time on the road with electronic acts Big Gigantic, Tipper, Beats Antique, Emancipator, Tycho, EOTO, and Lotus. Label releases include Amorphous, Soulection, Loci, 1320 records, Pretty Lights Music, Gravitas Recordings, Cantora Records, Yoshi Toshi, Daly City, Electronic Music Magazine, and Dub Lab.
