Hi DSC,
I hope this message finds you well. As we noted earlier this week, the Department of Education (ED) is hosting two regional hearings (one in Washington, DC, and one in Los Angeles) focused on getting feedback on priority issues that ED should regulate or issue guidance on under ESSA's Title I (the section dealing with accountability, indicators for school performance, and interventions for failing schools). School climate and discipline reform is the issue that we want to highlight for ED to issue regulations/guidance on to help schools implement.

On Monday, January 11 ED will host its first hearing and 4 DSC members will be testifying at the hearing including: Zakiya Sankara-Jabar of Racial Justice NOW! of Dayton, Ohio, Joyce Parker of Citizens for a Better Greenville of Mississippi, Marlyn Tillman of Gwinnett SToPP in Georgia, Harold Jordan of the ACLU of Pennsylvania and Janel George of NAACP Legal Defense and Education Inc.

The hearing will be live streamed here and we encourage participation from the broader DSC membership in order to uplift the recommendations we will be asking ED to consider.

You can share the following tweets and Facebook posts today and over the weekend and on Monday between 9am-5pm est (as the hearing is happening).
