Summer Camp

Summary

Campers in this group spend the morning enjoying counselor led activities, such as trail walks, field games and singing. In the afternoon, the group goes to two scheduled Nature Inspired Curriculum Events (NICE). A NICE is an hour of focused, intentional activity. Earthplace has four NICEs: Nature, Animals, Theater and Art. Each NICE is scheduled twice a week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. Wednesday afternoons are reserved for field trips.

Nature – In the Nature NICE we explore science and the environment with hands-on experimentation and scientific investigation. Nature NICE activities could include insect observation and discovery along the trails or a pond study.

Animal – In the Animal NICE we meet teaching animals from the Earthplace live animal collection. Campers will have the opportunity to touch and interact with the animals while we learn about their species, habits and care.

Theater – In the Theater NICE campers do improvisational performances, plan and perform group skits, sing songs, integrate props and costumes and more activities all inspired by the session theme. The Theater NICE is a great opportunity for free expression.

Art – In the Art NICE projects either depict nature or be composed of natural elements all inspired by the session’s theme.

Each Wednesday afternoon campers in these groups go off-campus for a field trip based on the session’s theme.
