My 65 is both a fund-raiser and friend-raiser, bringing together individuals from across Evanston and Skokie to celebrate public education in our community. The evening will feature food, music by DJ Dustin Harris, and a spoken word performance by District 65 middle school students with Kevin Coval, poet, author, artistic director of Young Chicago Authors, and founder of Louder Than A Bomb: The Chicago Youth Poetry Festival.

Proceeds from the My 65 Benefit will support literacy and arts programming that impacts students across every school, including Evanston Speaks: Youth Poetry Project. Evanston Speaks responds to the rising interest among middle school students in the poetry slam movement and creates opportunities for them to write, share and perform their poetry.
