President's Message...

Dancin on the Ceiling

Oh, what a feeling, when we're dancing on the ceiling.

This is a line from a Lionel Richie song that Dr. Sid E. Williams used when he was introduced at DE over the years. And I believe it sums up my feelings right now as I take over the helm of the GCC! I am SO EXCITED to be a part of this amazing organization.

A little about me. I am 1997 Life University graduate who opened an office 20 years ago in Rome GA, with my wife Rachel. We worked hard to bring true ChiropracTIC to our community and it has been a beautiful ride. We have two great children, Bre, age 17, and Blake, age 14, who have both been checked since birth and continue to thrive! I have been a member of the GCC for 20 years and have served on the board for many of them. I also have had the privilege to speak all over the country and in a few other countries on Principled Chiropractic. Dynamic Essentials has also been a consistent part of our lives since I was in school.

The GCC has been THE major player in all things ChiropracTIC in our state and in many ways our profession nationwide. I have heard many times that as Georgia goes, so goes the profession. Therefore we, at the GCC, take our jobs very seriously. We are fully committed to making sure all citizens have access to high quality, life-enhancing Chiropractic care that is focused on the detection and correction of a Vertebral Subluxation; this includes people in accidents, people in pain, asymptomatic folks, newborns, the elderly, and everyone in between! Everyone should have access to Chiropractic.

We are also committed to making sure that Chiropractors in our state have the opportunity and skill-set to be successful regardless of their chosen practice model. Whether that’s an auto accident office, pediatric, sports, insurance, cash, membership or any combination of the above.

Legislatively, we are fully committed to a drug-free profession that focuses intensely on the removal of subluxations. We have some great friends in the legislature to help us on that path and we will remain vigilant to ensure our laws are suitable for our profession.

These are exciting times to be a Chiropractor and to be a member of the GCC. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for electing me President, and I promise to work hard to fulfill my duties and beyond. Til next time, I hope you had a great holiday season and are ready to rock out in 2018...and keep Dancin’ on the Ceiling!!!

Brian Lieberman, D.C.
President, Georgia Council of Chiropractic

Meet Your 2018 GCC Board Members

Daniel Tew, DC - Vice President:  Born and raised in Buffalo NY, I made the move to Georgia to attend Life University.  Following graduation in 2009, I didn’t move far.  I opened a private practice in Marietta where I have been blessed to practice for the past 8 years serving families in my community through the principles of chiropractic.

Shortly after graduation, I also joined the GCC as a way to support our great profession. Ever since, I have been committed to attending regular board meetings and related events. For several years I worked on various committees, was eventually elected to the board of directors, and most recently I was honored to be elected to hold the position of Vice President.

Chiropractic, the GCC, the teachings of Dr. Sid Williams, and Dynamic Essentials have enriched my life tremendously.  I feel privileged and fortunate to serve our profession, as well as protect it, along side the other dedicated members of the GCC.

My sincere goal is to help other chiropractors in the way that the GCC has helped enhance my life in purpose, passion, and principle.

Awais Butt, DC - Past President:  I was blessed to be one of the last few to receive direct tutelage from Dr Sid Williams. I credit much of my success, in life and practice, to him and the leaders of the DE movement. It only made sense for me to join the state organization that embodied the ideals of those mentors.

I joined the GCC first as a student. This was during the time that Life University was having issues with their accreditation. The GCC leadership was committed to helping the students that chose to stay and support Life U. It was a tough time for everyone but having the support of the GCC was very beneficial. The GCC has continued this support to the current day, offering students support through events and mentorship that help with the transition from school life to practice life. I got to learn the nuts and bolts of practice thanks to these events, the speakers GCC brought to the stage, and my fellow GCC members.

After graduating I got to witness how the GCC is active politically. That year we helped pass a bill to change the scope of Chiropractic in Georgia. I was glad to be a part of this monumental event. Protecting the rights of our chiropractors and their subluxation based practices. One of the big lessons that I learned from Life University's accreditation process was that we have to show up. It seems that part of the reason why the school had issues was because not enough of us were sitting at the table. I wanted to make sure that we did not repeat the same mistake. Through the help of the GCC we are always at the table to make sure nothing like what happened with Life University happens again.

It has truly been an honor and a privilege to serve the GCC. First as a board member and then for the last two terms as president of the GCC. We are looking forward to creating a future where Chiropractic owns its rightful place in healthcare. Being surrounded by the right people has always been good advice. I'm glad that I'm a part of the GCC.

Drew Henderson, DC - Treasurer:  I was born and raised in the North Georgia mountains. I enrolled at Life University in January 2001 and graduated in December four years later. Soon after graduation I opened my own office in Murrayville, GA and the rest is, as they say, history.

I serve on the Board of the GCC because I want to serve not only the patients in my office but also the profession. Chiropractic has given me so much in my life and the right thing to do is to give back to this profession that has given me so much.

Attacks on Principled Chiropractic have increased in recent years. Whether it is the profession becoming watered down to a mere therapy or introduction of attempted legislation to limit our ability to  reach the public, we are constantly under attack. We need your help! The chiropractic profession needs your help and the people of Georgia, and America, need your help. There are many who want to stop us adjusting children and even want to remove the word “subluxation” from chiropractic! But if we all work together we can take chiropractic back and see the profession reach heights never imagined.

Please, share the message that only the GCC brings. Bring a non-member to any of our philosophy nights or our nuts and bolts events. The people of Georgia and beyond are counting on all of us to show them what life can be when we are clear and unsubluxated!

Francis Marcone, DC - Secretary:  Hola ladies and gents. I am a graduate of Life University and have been practicing since 2005. I currently practice Knee Chest Upper Cervical Spepcific in midtown.

I’ve been a GCC member since 2013 and have been serving on the board for two years.  It’s a great honor to be elected to the office of Secretary of the board. This organization was founded by Dr. Sid to preserve and protect our philosophy and the principles on which Chiropractic was founded. I am grateful to be able to do my part in continuing his legacy and am grateful to share this responsibility with an amazing group of chiropractors.

The GCC is here to preserve the right of Georgia chiropractors to practice Chiropractic, simply pure and unadulterated Chiropractic! We are also here to help address any questions or concerns our members have.  So please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.  While I personally know quite a few of our members, I am also looking forward to meeting the rest of you all at future events such as our CE seminars and Saturday Night Live philosophy and practice success nights. See you there!

Norman Colby, DC - Board of Directors:  I am very proud to say that I am a 1998 graduate of Life University. During my time at the University I became aware of and aligned myself with the teachings of Life's Founder, Dr. Sid E. Williams. The Lasting Purpose mindset of giving, loving, serving, and doing became a way of life for me that continues to inspire and guide me on a daily basis. When a person applies these principles to his or her life properly, there is nothing that cannot be achieved.

I am aware of so many that have fought in the past to preserve my right to practice principled chiropractic, therefore when called, it was my honor to continue the work of the GCC to keep chiropractic on the right course. I'm proud to be part of an organization that fights for the chiropractor's right to practice principled chiropractic, not just for our state of Georgia but also as a beacon of light around the world.

Tim Langley, DC - Board of Directors:  I have been involved with the Georgia Council of Chiropractic in some capacity or another for 25 years. the GCC has always been important to me because it is THE organization in Georgia that protects our right to provide chiropractic care to all who want it. And, the GCC has always been committed to protecting and perpetuating the Principles on which our profession was founded.

I believe it is important, even imperative, that every chiropractor that cares for babies, children, and families join and support the GCC. Your participation (at whatever level) helps to make Chiropractic in Georgia bigger, better and stronger.

Wade Port, DC - Board of Directors:  A few tidbits about me: I was born and raised in Marietta, attended Life University, and have been practicing for 13 years in an all cash practice. I was elected to the GCC board of directors in December 2016.

So many great things we take for granted in our incredible profession are due to the efforts of the GCC. I am grateful for the ability to make a difference through my membership and participation with our principled state organization. I believe every Chiropractor in the United States needs to be a member of their state organization as well as the GCC, regardless of where they practice.

Steve Ranicki, DC - Board of Directors:  As a profession, Chiropractic has always been under attack. Since the very beginning there have been people with the mindset that their world would be better if Chiropractic was not in it. We have had to fight hard and risk much to defend ourselves from those attacks. Imagine if, in the early years of our profession, most of those doctors had thought that "somebody ought to do something" but not taken it upon themselves to be the ones to actually do anything. Would we still be getting jailed today? Would there even be anything left to call Chiropractic? What would have happened to your life, and the lives of all of those you have touched and changed, if you and they had not been allowed to receive Chiropractic?

That is, unfortunately, where things stand now. Our ranks have certainly grown, but so has the percentage of chiropractors that feel "somebody (else) ought to do something".

Somebody does need to do something. And it needs to be me, and it needs to be all of you as well. If we tolerate the thought process that it's someone else's job to protect this profession, then it will be steered in a direction that every one of us won't be happy with. No matter what your particular vision is of what needs to happen within Chiropractic, if you are not making your voice heard then someone else will steer it in a different direction.

That is why you need to belong to a state organization, and why you need to offer your political support to ensure that the profession is steered in the direction that supports your goals and your ideals.

The reason I chose the Georgia Council of Chiropractic, in particular, is because, now more than ever, the people attacking our profession are ourselves. People outside of our profession have certainly not given up on trying to  harm us, but their efforts are having less and less effect.  Instead, there are unfortunately more and more chiropractors that believe the reason they have not achieved all the success they hoped for is because their hands are being tied. They believe the reason they're not succeeding is because they're not being allowed to do things that they think patients want. However, they're missing the fact that what has made Chiropractic the profession that it is is the fact that we don't do all of those other things. Now, more than ever, people are trying their hardest to find ways to avoid taking medications, to avoid putting things into their body that they feel don't belong there and to lead a more natural lifestyle. Chiropractic has been the greatest champion of that natural way of life that has been seen in contrast to the physically, chemically and mentally toxic environment of the current era.

Society is looking for healthcare leaders that can show them how to care for their bodies without tainting their bodies and minds more than is already happening. The GCC is not only trying to defend that model of Chiropractic, but also give us the tools, the strategies, the support and the inspiration to make our practices and our lives a success without having to alter what this amazing profession brings to the table.

That is why I belong to the GCC and why I hope you do too.

Cathy Wendland Colby, DC - Board of Directors:  Through her YouTube channel, websites, mentoring programs and stage presentations around the world, Dr. Cathy Wendland-Colby has empowered over 5 million women and families to make healthy choices for their pregnancy, birth, parenthood and for their family's health. She is a 1999 graduate of Life University, holds chiropractic licenses in 3 states, has two practices in Woodstock, Georgia, is adjunct faculty at Life U, and mentors students and new docs every day in her offices.

Dr. Cathy has been serving on the board of the GCC since 2014 out of a sense of ownership for the future of our profession. If it is to be, it is up to WE – those who stand for, protect and promote the Principles of ChiropracTIC as they were handed down to us by DD, BJ and Dr. Sid.
