SUSTAIN

An Interfaith Evening for the Climate with Bill McKibben

GreenFaith is thrilled to partner with Faith House Manhattan, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and 350.org to host SUSTAIN, an interfaith evening for the climate.  SUSTAIN’s centerpiece will be a 45-minute address by world famous environmental author and activist Bill McKibben, who will speak about the relationship between spirituality, climate change, social justice and sustainability.

SUSTAIN will take place on Saturday, Sept. 18 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine at 1047 Amsterdam Avenue at 110th street in New York City.  All are welcome to this free event.  A freewill offering will be taken.

In addition to McKibben’s lecture, SUSTAIN will feature prayers and readings from representatives of diverse religions along with musical offerings.  Following the lecture and organized program, there will be an hour-long ‘fair’ during which attendees can browse tables with materials from religious and environmental groups in the greater New York area.

Individual and organizational sponsorships for the event are available.  Sponsors receive VIP seating, invitations to a private reception with Bill McKibben prior to SUSTAIN, and table space to display their organization’s information and resources.  Click for information about sponsorships for individuals and organizations.

GreenFaith wishes to recognize that SUSTAIN was scheduled on Yom Kippur because it was the only date available on Bill McKibben’s schedule this fall.  “The Jewish community has been an important partner in religious-environmental efforts,” said Fletcher Harper, GreenFaith’s Executive Directior.  “We’re deeply sorry about the scheduling of this event and hope that our Jewish colleagues will understand why we chose to proceed.”
