July 19: "How Do You Say That?" Speech and Dialect with Catherine Seeley and Erin Ouellette

In this workshop, we'll explore the basic techniques of warming up the voice for speaking on stage that differ from singing. We'll work on projection, and how to make yourself heard in a packed theatre, or outdoors, and the philosophy behind the connection between your character, your body, and your voice. From there we'll move on to learning the basics of the International Phonetic Alphabet, and how it applies to learning dialects from all over the world. We'll focus on Southern, RP (or British), Cockney, and Irish. Ultimately, the goal of this workshop will be to further understand how to use your body and voice to inform on any character that you may play in the future.

A 6-week series of workshops with local professionals focusing on different aspects of theatrical training, including audition preparation and monologue work, Shakespeare, movement, improvisation, and proper vocal techniques.
