August 2: Physical Storytelling and Stage Combat with Erin Ouellette and Catherine Seeley

Words aren't the only way to tell stories. Actors have an entire physical vocabulary at their disposal to tell the tale of their character. In this course taught by Hubbard Hall performers Erin Ouellette and Catherine Seeley, students will explore aspects of movement such as body leading, pace, levels, kinesthetic response, stature, and many more to help bring characters to life. The class will also touch upon specialized movement in cross-gender casting, and non-realistic character movement. And lastly, the class will explore one of the most physical forms of storytelling: stage combat. Students will explore stage combat in a way that keeps themselves and scene partners safe while still allowing their character's motivations and physical life to be present. Students are asked to familiarize themselves with the Sherlock Holmes short story "The Final Problem", wear comfortable clothing and to bring 2-3 different types of shoes (ie- sneakers, boots, dress shoes, heels, etc.) for use in movement exploration.

A 6-week series of workshops with local professionals focusing on different aspects of theatrical training, including audition preparation and monologue work, Shakespeare, movement, improvisation, and proper vocal techniques.
