Description

POSTPONED--The Restorative Practice of Continuum Movement

with Robin Becker
One-day workshop: April 23 10am--5pm
Workshop cost: $100
Beacon Feed Dance Studio

All movement originates with breath. Healing, growth and all mobility, whether physical, emotional or spiritual, are all enhanced by the dexterity of breath.

Sound is audible breath, penetrating the density of locked tissue. It eases mobility while releasing areas of stagnation and stress.

Continuum's movements are designed to enhance the undulating spirals and circularity of the fluid system. Undulating wave motion permeates tissue, softens boundaries and amplifies sensation.

In Continuum we use sensation as a guide for the awakening of the body's mysteries and the activating principle of the life force that feeds and nurtures the entire system. Sensations of pleasure create an inviting climate for self-renewal.

Please bring what would help you be comfortably able to rest on the floor and keep you warm. As you know, in a relaxed state, we cool, so, a blanket or two? a pillow? a yoga mat?

Also, bring a light meal for lunch break, snacks for whenever, and, of course, water for sipping. For lunch, good quality food is available nearby, at the Round House Cafe. Placing an order with them in the morning before Saturday's class would be a smart option.

For people new to Continuum Movement,  there is a computer available video presentation with an explanation of the history and background of this work by Robin. It is important to view this for it gives a context for the work, sets the tone, and answers a few questions.

Robin Becker (Continuum Movement) began her dance training with Bentley Stone and Walter Camryn in Chicago, Illinois. She continued her studies at the Martha Graham School in New York City, and studied choreography with Bessie Schonberg. Robin has performed with the Martha Graham Ensemble, the Pearl Lang Dance Company, the Eleo Pomare Dance Company and as a guest artist with the Denishawn Repertory Dancers at the Biennale Festival in Lyons, France. Robin’s commitment to the exploration of movement and spirituality permeate her art
