Curiosity Forum: Pairings--Musings on Art, a talk by Leslie Parke

Sunday, February 28th at 2:00pm
Hubbard Hall Freight Depot

“Pairings” is a project I started on Facebook, where I would post two pieces of artwork together without comment. The implication was that these works had something to do with each other, but what that was up to the viewer. For me it was a way to experience very disparate works of art that have something in common; or others that looked almost identical, but carry completely different meanings.  What I found out in this process is that others liked these “pairings” and what thoughts the pairings provoked for them.  Lots of people have trouble engaging with certain pieces of art, and more specifically contemporary art. But having specific things to compare between two pieces of art, gave them a road in; a way to start looking at a piece and ask interesting questions about what they are seeing.  In this talk I’ll share some thoughts on such “pairings”, as well as, what one can learn by “just looking”.

Curiosity Forum events are a partnership of Battenkill Books, Hubbard Hall, and Leslie Parke Studio. All events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.
