Paint Your Pet: Animal Portraiture in Oils (Fall 2013)

Description

Paint Your Pet: Animal Portraiture in Oils

We all love our pets--cats, dogs, horses, goldfish, parakeets, ferrets, boa constrictors, miniature pigs, sheep, cows, chickens, snow leopards. How great to have an oil portrait of one or more! Whether you are a total beginner or an experienced artist who may never have painted animals before, you can do it. Oil paints are the most "forgiving" of mediums (you can make all kinds of mistakes and changes), as well as the most respected, and pets are so much fun to paint.

Students should bring several photographs of their pet(s) to the first class, along with some paper to sketch on, a pencil and eraser, a ruler, and a stretched canvas or canvasboard  approx. 12" x 16" or 16" x 20". A list of paints and other supplies will be provided upon registration. Paints and supplies may be shared between students. Try to select clear photos that are taken in sunshine or other good light. A flash picture is difficult to paint from.
