Established in 1906, the Kentucky Nurses Association (KNA) is the only full-service professional organization for the state's entire nurse population. In addition to promoting the essential role of the registered nurse in health care delivery, KNA serves as an advocate for quality patient care in all settings. From the halls of Frankfort and state agencies to boardrooms, hospitals and other health care facilities, KNA is the strong voice for the nursing profession in Kentucky. KNA is seeking an experienced and energetic professional to fill this position:
Title: Executive Director
Supervises: The Director of Communications and the Administrative Coordinator
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Reports to: The Executive Committee of the Board of Directors.
The focus of this position requires strategic planning to promote the following:
• The KNA mission through outreach
• Outstanding internal and external communications
• Efficient use of technology and resources
• Recruitment of new membership and retention of existing members
• Innovative programming that provides value and promotes KNA
Position Description:
Applies expertise, innovation and leadership in nursing and business management to direct the work of the association. Leads the administrative team to ensure that activities and programs of the association are successful, as directed by the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors, bylaws, goals and priorities of the Association. Uses skills or organizational and administrative procedures to facilitate constituent groups’ effectiveness. Serves as resource person and consultant to the Board, constituent units, and committees of the association. Monitors and evaluates the performance and effectiveness of the association. Works closely with the President and Board of Directors in planning for the future of the association.
Essential Functions:
Facilitates internal and external collaboration and communication between diverse groups and persons. Provides visionary leadership to staff in order to ensure success of the association. Maintains high-performing management team in order to meet all goals and objectives timely. Ensures the operational and financial goals of the association are met in order to fulfill programmatic needs. Acts as a resource to the Board of Directors when planning for the future of the association. Represents the association with ANA, constituent groups, external stakeholders and the public. Serves as spokesperson on matters of KNA established policy and positions and point of contact with state government, media, partners and others, according to policies established by the Board of Directors. Local and regional travel required. Occasional national travel required.
Qualifications:
• A Master’s Degree is required. Nursing Background and experience with a nonprofit organization is preferred
• Minimum of 5 years experience in a progressive leadership role in Healthcare, Organizational Management, Human Resources, or related field
• Experience directing evidence based nursing practice and health policy
• Skills in interpersonal communication and relationships, group facilitation, collaboration and conflict resolution
• Organizational and project management experience; ability to develop detailed plans and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Ability to use Microsoft Office programming
• Experience in implementing technology to support business practices and outcomes
• Experience in professional advocacy and the legislative process agenda
• Active participation in a professional association
