Dear Lisa Pendleton,

The Pennyrile District Health Department is accepting applications for a full-time Health Environmentalist I (Grade 15) to be based in Trigg County (travel required within the five counties covered by the Pennyrile District Health Department). 
 
General Duties Include:  Perform work of moderate difficulty while receiving training in the application of environmental health programs and in the enforcement of regulations through formal classroom training and on-the-job experience.

Perform duties with close monitoring by professional supervisory personnel until properly trained to perform functions independently. Includes field work pertaining to soil analysis and inspection of onsite sewage systems.

Perform regular inspections of tourist accommodations, schools, and swimming pools to ensure compliance with state and local regulations pertaining to environmental health. This may include taking product samples and forwarding for testing. Secure water samples; investigate nuisance complaints and other duties related to environmental health. Inspect food establishments for compliance with state regulations pertaining to sanitation.

Request assistance from supervisor in situations beyond scope of training and experience. Interpret reports generated by Environmental Health Management Information System (EHMIS)/Graphical Users Interface (GUI) system. Analyze and interpret data regarding test results, inspection results, etc. and present results to appropriate types of audiences.
 
Minimum Education, Training, and Experience:  Bachelor’s Degree from college or university with a minor or 24 semester hours in environmental health, biological, or physical science or registration as a Kentucky Environmental Specialist/Sanitarian under KRS 223. (NOTE: an individual upon employment must become registered under the provisions of KRS 223 to remain a permanent employee per Administrative Regulations 902 KAR 8:080.)

Preference will be given to applicants who possess soil-related experience or education.

No experience required.

Starting pay is $12.15/hour.

Successful applicants must pass a criminal background check.
