Library and Digital Archivist Interns
Description
The Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline, Mass., also widely known and respected as "America's Oldest Car Collection," is seeking library and digital archivist interns to assist with organizing, cataloging and digital implementation of the museum's automotive research library. Over the years the museum has acquired many books, maps, encyclopedias and other publications related to the automobile and its impact on society. Many books in the museumâs library are very old and date back to the late 19th and early 20th century. However, the library covers the entire period from the beginning of automobile industry to the present. The best candidates for this position would possess a great attention to detail, a background in History and Library Studies. This is an unpaid internship though, class credit is available, not to mention the outstanding opportunity to work at an important institution on an interesting project.

The Larz Anderson Auto Museum has been operating as a center for cultural and educational programs since 1949. The mission of this 501 C(3) nonprofit institution is to educate the community and our visiting patrons on the importance of the automobile throughout history and the impact that the car makes on society to this day. Through educational programs, lawn events and lectures the museum has educated the community on this subject As a nonprofit we rely on the help of volunteers and interns to help ensure the longevity of our museum and our success. The museum is looking for students interested in history, education, preservation and museum activities to intern at the museum. We need individuals who can help us with our many lawn events throughout the fall, to assist with our EBAY store and to help organize our research library. This program is an unpaid volunteer internship opportunity that exposes interns to the inner workings of a small nonprofit museum, promoting an awareness of careers in the field through experiences not available in most academic settings. The student will need to be able to work independently as well as in a group, be on time and professional.
