2017-18 Venture Mentor Application

Thank you for your interest in the LearnServe Venture Mentor program! Venture Mentors will have the option of volunteering with either the LearnServe Fellows Program or LearnServe Incubator program.

Fellows Program - Venture Mentors assist different students at each session (“Innovation Lab”). This program allows for greater flexibility if a mentor has to miss a session due to a work commitment. There will be approximately 10 sessions total throughout the school year.

Incubator Program - Venture Mentors work with the same 1-2 LearnServe student teams throughout the year. Mentors are expected to attend every session for which they commit, and are also expected to connect with students independently, virtually, once per week.

LearnServe students represent a diverse group of academic and socio-economic backgrounds. LearnServe realizes that academic and extracurricular opportunities are not always equitable. LearnServe works to bridge these gaps in our programs, and provides specific programming, including a separate mentorship opportunity, for students that attend a Collaborative school or self-identify. This mentorship opportunity requires a greater engagement level from mentors to take the extra step and build relationships to support Fellows’ success. Both mentor programs require background checks through Verified Volunteers, at a cost to the mentor of $30 ($60 for those who have lived in New York in the past seven years.) I understand that I will be asked to complete a background check prior to joining as a Venture Mentor. *
