Summer 2013

LearnServe Abroad Takes Flight!

On June 24, 49 students and teachers departed for their trips to Zambia, Jamaica, and Paraguay.  Parents, teachers, and participants gathered on June 15 for the send-off celebration.  We were honored to have present Ana Martinez and Victor Benitez from the Embassy of Paraguay, and Patricia Littiya from the Embassy of Zambia. Anne Baker, Vice President of the National Peace Corps Association, offered advice to the travelers. We wish them a safe, fun, and eye-opening trip and look forward to their return in mid-July!

You can follow their stories on the blogs for Paraguay, Jamaica, and Zambia.

Live from the Venture Fair

After 7 months of preparation, the 2013 LearnServe Fellows pitched 45 social venture ideas to more than 100 business and non-profit professionals.  Four teams were presented with our inaugural LearnServe Innovation Award.

LearnServe Delights in Deloitte Impact Day

On June 7, LearnServe partnered with Deloitte for their Annual Impact Day, where Deloitte employees show their commitment to the community by taking the day off work and contributing their time to nonprofits and community programs.

LearnServe alumni were introduced to consulting as a profession, toured Deloitte offices and worked on a real-life case study. Afterwards, they received one-on-one advice on resume writing, interview skills and their venture projects. LearnServe board and staff used the opportunity to consult with Deloitte staff on fundraising and messaging.
