Whether your goal is a documentary, narrative or experimental film; this class is for those who simply want to better their understanding of the technical and theoretical aspects of filmmaking. This class will not focus on basic video camera operation but rather the fundamentals of making a film. This class will include a review of professional films to gain a better understanding of composition, set design, styling, lighting, creative effects and camera techniques. Students will be guided through hands-on practice in Uptown Charlotte. In addition, they will complete homework assignments to practice and refine their skils in cinematography, lighting and sound with their current filmmaking equipment. The instructor will offer feedback on homework assignments to encourage students to improve their technical approach. During the last two classes, students will have the opportunity to work in a professional filmmaking studio to practice their technical skills with professional actors.
Students who plan to use their DSLR cameras for this course are highly encouraged to take the DSLR Filmmaking Crash-Course for Beginners to learn the fundamentals of DSLR video capture.
