Summary
Description
For over 30 years FoodLab: The Kitchen Classroom at Pacific Elementary School has been creating daily school meals with upper elementary grade students. An offshoot of the school’s Life Lab, FoodLab is considered one of the most progressive federal school meal programs in the nation.
This one-day workshop, located at FoodLab near Santa Cruz, is designed to share the magic that happens in FoodLab school kitchens -- across California and across the nation – with each community making the program look, feel, and taste the way they like best. Learn to set up a kitchen space that will encourage children to explore, ask questions, and connect to food they make themselves. Learn activities to engage children’s curiosity and enthusiasm while introducing them to fundamental ideas in math, chemistry, language arts, history, and leadership skills.
There is more than one way to run a FoodLab program and we strongly encourage you to get involved, begin a dream and take action. You can start by attending this workshop! Workshop will be taught by FoodLab Director Emelia Miguel along FoodLab student alumni.
