In Her Own Words

I heard about scholarship program (GATE) from the staff of Cambodian Women’s Crisis Center (CWCC) in 2004. I applied for it and was awarded after a long selection process. I was in the scholarship program from 7th to 12th grade and received monthly stipend and tuition money, study materials, school uniforms, and a bicycle to travel to school. The program staff had been encouraging me to study hard regardless of how desperate my family living standard was until I successfully graduated high school and I never thought I would come this far.

Before getting support from scholarship program, I had faced so many obstacles such as having no bike to ride to school while living far from school, often getting to school late, no money to buy study materials, couldn’t afford tuition classes, and lacking pocket money.

Being in the scholarship program I got a bike to ride to school; I went to school regularly and on time; I had enough notebooks, pens, and school uniforms; I got monthly stipend; and I also got tuition money to take many tuition classes which enabled me to pass High School National Board Exam successfully and eventually get admitted to University of Management and Economics for a 4-year bachelor’s degree!

The good news for my family and me is that the donor still continues to support me throughout the 4 year course! I am extremely delighted and hope to get a good job after finishing university, so that I can help support my family and contribute to developing my country, especially helping poor children like what the program is doing for me now.

I promise that I will study hard to be a good person in society and have a decent job to return your good deed helping poor girls like me without wanting any return.

Last but not least, I would like to sincerely thank Lotus Outreach and all CWCC staff for granting me scholarship since I was in 7th grade until university. May you have good luck and good health.
