In Her Own Words

I had been in the GATE scholarship program from 2007 to 2010. After finishing high school in 2010 from Svay Chek High School, I was admitted to Meanchey University with a full scholarship (I do not have to pay the school fee) for four years, majoring in Humanities and Korean Language. I was very happy with this good news; however, I was also worried at the same time because to be able to study at university, there is so many other costs associated. I need to stay away from home, so have to pay for accommodation, utilities, and food. I also need to buy text books, study materials, uniform, and take computer and English tuition classes. How could I afford all these?

My family is very poor and doesn’t have enough to survive, let alone keep me in school. At one point, my parents told me that they could no longer afford to keep me in school, so I had to drop out. I got so shocked hearing this. I thought to myself the dream to have a bright future is over now. I was terribly disappointed and hopeless.

Luckily, I got good news that Lotus Outreach would continue to support me through these 4 years at university. I was so excited with this news. I can’t believe my luck!

Last but not least, I would like to sincerely thank the donor for your intervention and support so far. I wish you health, happiness and success in your work forever.
