In Her Own Words

My family migrated from Prey Veng Province to Banteay Meanchey Province when I was 5 years old after the death of my father. There was no income earner in the family then and we had neither housing land nor farm land. When we first arrived in Banteay Meanchey, my family was very desperate having to pay $15 per month for rent in Treas Village, Treas Commune, Svay Chek District and also send me to Treas Primary School. After being in school for two years, I had to drop out because my mother couldn’t earn enough to keep me in school.

In 1999 my family moved to Roluos village in Roluos Commune and we still had to rent a place to live. My mother had a new job and was able to send me and my other two siblings to school then. My mother had to work very hard these 20 years after the death of my father. She has to play both father and mother roles.

In 2004, Cambodian Women’s Crisis Center (CWCC) had a program to provide scholarships to poor female students who cannot afford to go to school by giving study materials, school uniforms, tuition money and so on. I applied for the scholarship and was awarded one. Since then I returned to school at Svay Chek Lower Secondary School and my school performance improved as well with support from my mother.

In 2010, I successfully passed High School National Board Exam with a good result which is very satisfactory to me and I also was admitted to do a three-year Associate Degree in Nursing.

I would like to tremendously thank my mother, CWCC, teachers and donors. I wish them all good luck and successful in everything they do.
