In Her Own Words
My name is Mich Kimheang, 21 years old, and I was born on 03 April, 1990 at Dong Arangh Village, Kout Soth Commune, Ochreuv District, Battambang Province. Nowadays, I am living in Romchek 4 Village, Ratanak Commune, Battambang District, Battambang Province. My father Mich Mut and my mother Vann Chanthou are both farmers.
Before getting a scholarship from GATE, I had to travel to school a very long distance by foot which contributed to my family’s poverty because I had no free time to work. My parents work in temporary farming jobs and earn very little money.
Because of my family’s financial situation and the fact that I was a good student, I was awarded a GATE scholarship in 2007 which provided me with clothes, shoes, a bicycle, a monthly stipend, and other study materials. After I passed my high school diploma exam, I was admitted to Battambang University for a degree in Accouting. To cover the tuition, my parents had to borrow money from their siblings. Thankfully Lotus Outreach continues to support me for other expenses, such as the small room I need to rent near campus.
I give the high honor to the organization which has helped me so far. I hope you will still support me and help me to find job after I graduate. |
