In Her Own Words

My name is Horm Teang and I was born on 09 July, 1990 in Snay Proem village, Sena Udom commune, Phreah Sdach district, Prey Veng province. Currently, I am living in Rom Chek 4 village, Rottanak commune, Battambang district, Battambang province. My father Cheam Pan and my mother Bo Sakun are farmers.

Before obtaining a GATE scholarship, I was living in poverty and my home was too far away to get to school without some sort of transportation. My parents could only find seasonal, temporary work and suffered from low income and high expenses. In 2005, I was awarded a GATE scholarship and received clothes, a hat, a bicycle to get to school, a monthly stipend and school supplies which enabled me to reach high school and pass the national board exam to get a diploma.

Due to the support of my parents, I continued my studies at Battambang University, majoring in Finance and Banking and I am now in my second year. Lotus Outreach also provided support for non-tuition expenses such as food, money, clothes, rice, and housing. This made me so happy and gave me renewed hope that I would be able to finish college.

Without the big support of Lotus Outreach and encouragement from the GATE staff, I would not have been unable to study up to today. I would let to give my thankfulness to all the donors. I wish you all good luck, health, and wealth.
