Anne Kerry Ford Benefit Concert

10/16/2009 07:30 PM - 10/17/2009 ET

Description

Broadway veteran Anne Kerry Ford first performed the songs of Kurt
Weill in concert with WDR’s 27 piece Big Band in Cologne (at
Philharmonic Hall) and Dusseldorf, Germany and Liège, Belgium, in 2000
as a tribute to Kurt Weill’s centenary under the musical direction of
jazz legend Roger Kellaway. The Cologne Stadt Anziger pronounced it "a
huge success." and the CD of this concert (“Weill”) has been received
with considerable acclaim. The following year she repeated this
concert with an all-star American big band at The John Anson Ford
Amphitheatre. She is a devotee of the music of Kurt Weill and is noted
as one of the foremost interpreters of Weill’s music. She also
appeared in the Broadway production of Weill’s The Threepenny Opera
starring Sting. Her youtube video of “Pirate Jenny” has become a
sensation, and the same song made USA Today’s “ten most intriguing
tracks”, described as “girl power brings memorable sturm and drang to
the Brecht/Weill classic”. L.A. Weekly said of her Weill tribute “This
magnificent singer reaches to pull out emotional moments that soar
beyond cabaret into moving theatre.” Ford will be accompanied by John
Boswell on piano.
