MCASA's 32-Hour Comprehensive Sexual Assault Victim Advocate Training

September 18, 19, 20, and 21 (all 4 days required) 
8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

This 32-hour training is designed for advocates who work directly with sexual assault survivors in any capacity. There is no cost for this training. The training will cover introductory and advanced topics to provide a foundation for best practice of advocates in the field of sexual assault services. 

 

Introductory Topics will include*:

  • Overview of Sexual Assault: Theory, Myths, Statistics, and Approach

  • Professional Ethics and Boundaries

  • Confidentiality and Advocate Testimony

  • Safety Planning and Risk Assessment

  • Sexual Violence and Trauma

  • Self-Care and Vicarious Trauma

  • Criminal Injuries Compensation Board

  • Criminal and Civil Legal Options

  • Role of the SART (Sexual Assault Response Team)

  • Role of Law Enforcement

  • Role of FNEs (Forensic Nurse Examiners)

  • Crisis Assessment and Intervention

  • Safety Planning: Stalking and Technology

  • Military Sexual Trauma

  • Professional Ethics and Boundaries

  • Working with Diverse Communities

  • Working with LGBTQ+ Survivors

  • Reproductive Coercion

  • Immigrant Survivors

  • Human Trafficking: Risk Factors, Role of Trauma Bonding, and Methods of Recruitment

  • College Sexual Assault: Implications for Advocates

  • PREA for Advocates

  • Prevention
