Summary

The Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault (MCASA) announces the opening of registration for its annual MCASA Women of Color Network (MWOCN) conference to be held from 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Bowie State University. MWOCN strives to promote education, advocacy and leadership in communities in order to improve service delivery to victims and prevent sexual violence. In order to do so, MWOCN annually holds a conference, bringing together multi-disciplined professionals to learn and improve practice methods. This year, MWOCN, with the support of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, is proud to present Through A Different Lens: A Focus On Special Populations.

This year, we are fortunate to have three excellent keynote speakers .

Re'dhonda Malone, MPH, is a Public Health Advisor at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. She will focus her speech on the prevention of sexual violence.

Fiona Oliphant, Esq., is the Acting Director of the Asian/Pacific Islander Domestic Violence Resource Project. Her presentation will discuss the necessity of implementing Cultural Humility when assisting survivors of sexual assault.

Tina Frundt is the Founder and Executive Director of Courtney's House. Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking and methods to spot, prevent, and intervene are the subjects of her presentation.

The conference will also address the following topics in breakout sessions:

Engaging Men & Boys
Sexual Assault in the Military
Immigration Options for Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, and Human Trafficking Survivors
