Rhododendron and Rare Plant Workshop

Tuesday, May 29, 10:00 am to 1:00 p.m.
$30 members, $35 nonmembers

Location: Gardens of Rice Creek, 1315 66th Ave NE, Fridley, MN 55432

On arrival, your group will participate in a guided tour of rock gardens, dwarf conifers and the rare plant nursery.  Questions are encouraged, and landscaping principles are explained.  Time is allowed for purchases before lunch is served.  A local pizza parlor will deliver a variety of fresh-made pizza at noon.  Dining is al fresco, or if weather is inclement, in the greenhouse/sunporch.

In the afternoon, a walk across the street reveals the rhododendron trial gardens.  Under a canopy of White Oaks, the best species and hybrids for our climate are growing in the ground. Bloom time extends all spring, and foliage is attractive year around.  Seedlings on trial in nursery rows show fascinating differences in growth habits.  Instructions for hybridizing, from pollination of flowers and collecting seed, to lining out of seedlings and selection of best plants will be demonstrated. We look forward to your visit!
