Farming in the Past: The Volante Farm at Oak Hill

Peter Volante will speak at the Newton Community Farm about the history of the Volante Farm in Oak Hill. His grandparents, Peter and Caterina Volante purchased the property in 1917 and the family operated it until 1962, when Ferdinand Volante moved to the present location in Needham. He will discuss the organization of the farm and the transition from wholesale to retail operations. Light refreshments will be provided courtesy of Volante Farm.

Peter grew up in Newton Centre and worked at the farm from the age of thirteen until his graduation from Notre Dame with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He worked as an aerospace software engineer, primarily at Draper Laboratory in Cambridge, and is now retired and living in Lexington, where he tends a large vegetable garden.
