Socially Aware Young Farmers 07/13/15-07/17/15

07/13/2015 09:00 AM - 07/17/2015 12:30 PM ET

Description

This NEW program combines hands on farming with Bridges:Our Smarts, an intergenerational program that fosters friendship and understanding between older adults and middle school students.

Each day;

** Students and seniors will work together in small groups to complete simple, fun activities pertaining to the Farm and nature, to promote shared perspectives and interesting discussions.

** Students will participate in farm activities such as weeding, transplanting and harvesting produce. They will then use some of this produce to prepare their own snacks.

** We will explore our eight intelligences or "smarts" through a range of activities and games. (Central to the program is Prof. Howard Gardner's multiple intelligence or "smarts" theory. This theory proposes that people have eight intelligences or "smarts" in varying amounts: body, logic, music, nature, people, picture, self and word.)

Through this program students will experience the joys of the farm, form new friendships and learn just how smart they are!
