The Northwoods Birding Festival is an opportunity for bird enthusiasts of all levels to celebrate birds while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow birders in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin. Learn from experts in the field of ornithology, improve your birding skills through field trips to local birding hotspots, and see birds up close through bird banding demonstrations! This year’s 10th Annual Northwoods Birding Festival features a keynote presentation by loon behavioral ecologist Jay Mager. We hope to spot you there!

About the Keynote Speaker:

Jay Mager, an associate professor of Biological & Allied Health Sciences at Ohio Northern University, is studying the acoustic signals that Common Loons use to acquire and defend breeding territories.  During his presentation he will be unraveling the mysteries of the beautiful, yet haunting calls of the Common Loon that echo across lakes in the Northwoods each summer.
