Old Growth Hikes with John Bates Series:Forest County-Giant White Pine Grove SNA **CANCELLED**

Meet John Bates at this beautiful site on an informative old growth hike.  Giant White Pine Grove features an example of mature hemlock-hardwoods with a white pine supercanopy. Located in the Headwaters Wilderness Area, hemlock, sugar maple, yellow birch, and basswood dominate the forest. A few scattered old-growth hemlock groves surround the white pine grove, with a pocket of old-growth at the trailhead. We will walk at a moderate pace, stopping often to look at different plants and birds that interest us. Total hike distance will be about 3 miles. Some stamina is required given the length of the hike.
