Description

Learn about the maritime history of Lake Superior through tales of the tragic shipwrecks and heroic rescues that occurred near the Rock of Ages Lighthouse.  Built in 1908 and standing 137 feet tall, this powerful lighthouse sits on an isolated rock several miles off the southwest shore of Isle Royale National Park.  Presenters David Gerth, Founder and Director of the Rock Of Ages Lighthouse Preservation Society, and his wife Heather, who was the Discovery Center's Research Coordinator through summer 2016, share stories of the unique challenges and joys of restoring this historical lighthouse in a remote but beautiful location.
