Join us for the 7th Annual Bird Fest!

May 20-21, 2011

This year we celebrate International Migratory Bird Day on May 21st!

What is International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD)?

IMBD celebrates and brings attention to one of the most important and spectacular events in the Americas - bird migration.  Bird Day is celebrated in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean.

Why Celebrate Migratory Birds?

Public awareness and concern are crucial components of migratory bird conservation. Citizens who are enthusiastic about birds, informed about threats, and empowered to become involved in addressing those threats, can make a tremendous contribution to maintaining healthy bird populations. By modeling what can be done and involving people, their interest and involvement in stewardship can grow. One of the most successful vehicles for public education on migratory birds is International Migratory Bird Day(IMBD).  Across the Americas Bird Day events are providing great ways for people to get involved.

Our Bird Fest 2011 Keynote Speaker is Laura Erickson!

Laura Erickson is author of four books, winner of the National Outdoor Book Award and several conservation, research, and writing awards, and contributing writer for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. She's been producing her radio program, "For the Birds," for a quarter of a century, since May, 1986. She lives with her husband, dog, two indoor cats, and a licensed education screech-owl. We are happy to have her back this year!

KEYNOTE~ Laura Erickson is back with her presentation entitled "Migration from the Gulf to Wisconsin." From loons to hummingbirds, a host of migrating birds spend time in or over the Gulf of Mexico.  How has this BP oil spill affected them?

FRIDAY SPEAKER~ Local author and naturalist John Bates will be presenting "Spring Bird Migration in Wisconsin's Northwoods- A Phenology and Guide to Attracting Migrants."

PLUS...AM FIELD TRIPS AND PM PRESENTATIONS!
