Summary

The Northwoods of Wisconsin are abundant in plant life ranging from spring ephemerals like delicate Starflowers, to towering trees like our beloved Eastern Hemlocks. In this Flora of the Northwoods hiking series, our team of naturalists will take participants out into various ecosystems to share their flora knowledge and demonstrate how vastly diverse plant life is in our region.

Description

As you walk through the woods around your property, or on your local trails, do you ever wonder what the names are of the beautiful, spring ephemeral flowers popping up everywhere? Or perhaps you know the names of a variety of species and wonder how blueberries can be related to labrador tea?

Join Naturalist Aidan in a plant taxonomy, and plant anatomy class to set the stage for our upcoming Flora of the Northwoods hikes! Aidan will discuss plant anatomy, common families of plants in our area and describe floristic characteristics of these families. Aidan will also share common flowers you will see start popping up in the woods as the spring season progresses. Following the class, participants will take a short walk on our interpretive trail to use the knowledge they gained out in the field!

Registered participants will meet in the Forest Room at the Discovery Center.  Registration required by 5/2/24.  Saturday 1 PM - 3 PM.  $20/Non-Member, $15/Members.
