Behind the Screens: Tech Use for Modern Families
Description
Gain the knowledge and skills you need to help your tweens safely and responsibly navigate the world of social media, gaming, video chatting, and texting. We will have separate, interactive parent and youth programs and then join for one full-group discussion. Facilitated by Rosina Keren, MSW, a middle school counselor in Berkeley Unified School District with the help of her teen sons Josh and Jordan. OFC staff Kay Gordon and Mitali Purkayastha will be joined by Ariel, a Berkeley teen, in the youth breakout group. Youth will empower themselves by creating videos about how and why they use technology, and how they do so in a positive way. Content will focus on youth 9-13 years old.
Dinner will be provided.
We strive to make our programs accessible to all families. Please contact kay@ourfamily.org or call 415-981-1960 for accommodations that would help your family participate to the fullest (e.g. ASL interpreter, childcare for children with learning disabilities, large print materials, gluten-free food options, etc.). Advance notice required for some accommodations.
