Description

SOLD OUT - CONFIRMATION FOR THOSE ON WAITLIST WILL BE THURSDAY

Our annual East Bay BBQ and Campout is back!

We're offering three ways for your family to enjoy the great outdoors with each other and other LGBTQ families:

  • Camping Lite: Enjoy a BBQ lunch at noon, fun activities, sports, crafty projects, and nature walks. In the evening, warm up by the fire, tell tall tales, and sing songs. Then leave for your own dinner and cozy beds whenever you like!
  • Saturday Night Fever: All of the above plus snacksdinner, s'mores, Saturday overnight stay, and Sunday breakfast!
  • Double Header: Friday + Saturday overnights!  Arrive anytime after 5pm Friday for DIY fun (bring your own Friday dinner and Saturday breakfast eats),  stay overnight, and enjoy all the afternoon programming and OFC BBQ chow from noon Saturday through Sunday morning.

Details: We're opening the campsite Friday at 5pm. This first night's food'll be on you, but we'll be there to keep you company. The afternoon BBQ begins Saturday, August 15 at 12pm.

Registrants will receive an email detailing what we'll provide, suggested gear to bring, and notes about parking at the trailhead and the transfer of gear the half-mile up to the campsite.

Where: Wildcat View Group Camp in Tilden Park, Berkeley, CA. Limited parking available at the gate at the end of Lone Oak Road; see area map here.

Cost: As always, we offer a sliding scale. No one turned away for lack of funds. Suggested fees help cover food, staffing, and camping site rental costs. If you need any camping equipment (e.g. sleeping bags or tents), please call us at 415-981-1960 or e-mail kay@ourfamily.org.

  • Camping Lite/ Saturday BBQ + afternoon activities + evening only: suggested $10 for adults; kids free
  • Saturday Night Fever/ Saturday BBQ + afternoon activities + dinner + overnight + Sunday breakfast: suggested $60-$80 per family
  • Double Header/ Friday + Saturday overnights: suggested $80-$100 per family

We strive to make our programs accessible to all families. Please contact kay@ourfamily.org or call 415-981-1960 for accommodations that would help your family participate to the fullest (e.g. ASL interpreter, gluten-free food options, etc.). Advance notice required for some accommodations.

Share your story

We’re looking for stories by or about LGBTQ+ parents/caregivers or prospective parents, as well as the grandparents or adult children of LGBTQ+ headed families.

Generally, we hope your story will not only inform other families on LGBTQ+ family topics, but also let others know that they are not alone in the journey of advocating for our families.

Whether you feel like you’ve arrived, or your story is not yet complete, know that we can keep one another company all along the way. And it always helps to feel a little less alone.

  • How is your family structured?
  • What is your family formation story?
  • Have you faced challenges in forming your family or parenting because of your identity?
  • How were you able to navigate these challenges?
  • What has been the impact on you/your spouse/children?
  • What systems/people helped guide you?
  • What advice would you have for other LGBTQ-headed families – or perhaps just your younger self?
  • How have you or your family dealt with challenges at schools, medical providers, or elsewhere?
  • Were there times when you expected resistance and instead were welcomed?
  • Do you have opinions you’d like to share about current events, or perhaps movies, TV shows, music, or more?
  • Do you have a story about how Our Family Coalition has had an impact on your or your family that you’d like to share?
